THE IGUANA TONGUED POLITICIANS OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA I pledge to Nigeria my country , to be faithful loyal and honest;… these have they sang from childhood to adulthood. With one tongue they speak but it divides into two having no integrity in words, staggering and in flexibility of their of their promises. Like the Iguana Lizard their tongue splits. These politicians for the attainment of their ambition and aspirations, they flatter the people. Trust and commitment they assure, with enticing words they draw the common man close, making them believe what might not be; even till death. In selfishness they barricade themselves with armed men, long and electrified fences for the offences they have or might cause the people. The common man suffering in his misery blaming himself for selling out his right, as the government man claims to be deaf on the request of the people they represent. The hungry citizen receives penny from his own bag of gold been held back by these politicians, having no choice praising a man for impoverishing him. Little as the bread crumbs, he feeds his family. Blinded in his blindness he forms loyalty for favouritism to the politician. He even at the length of selling out his people and depriving them of the little light he beholds. As the days go by, these same politicians fashion themselves as angels doing the uncommon things with even the poorest of men to draw attention for another political era. They visit rural communities with Schnapps and bundles of new Nigerian currencies; flashily they once again they buy the minds of the people even the aggrieved. In drunkeness the elders make long prayers and proclamations on these politicians, aroused by the bundles of of the Naira, they flatter, bless, assure these same politicians of their support, compelling even their subjects and the people they rule. This has been the circle of Nigerians and their political representatives. Flaunting themselves of lustrous life, these leaders increase the poverty of the Nation. They elapse our economy, “the giants of Africa” becomes a ferry tale as we do not know the direction of the Nigerian ship. The few good, transparent, reliable and the single tongued individuals are not allowed to progress in leadership; but God fights for His people by raising men of integrity whose name will be crested on the stone of time.
